Prof. Roberto Salvia, MD PhD

Prof. Roberto Salvia was born in Desenzano del Garda in 1966. He qualified in Medicine (MD degree) in 1991 at the University of Verona, and received his certification in General Surgery in 1997. Furthermore, in 2002 he attained a Ph.D degree in Pancreatic Sciences. He completed a research fellowship at the Massachussets General Hospital (Harvard Medical School), Boston, USA. He is currently full Professor of Surgery, Director of the Residency Program in Surgery of the University of Verona and the executive chief of the Verona Pancreas Institute.

His experience covers all the surgical diseases of the pancreas, but is particulary relevant in the field of cystic neoplasms and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. 

He performed or tutored more than 1000 pancreatic resections, even with laparoscopic and robotic techniques and 350 other pancreatic operations. He followed the European course in laparoscopic surgery, the advanced course in laparoscopy of the ACOI school of surgery, and the advanced course of hepatic surgery of the ACOI school of surgery.

Prof. Salvia is author of more than 450 full-text papers in peer-reviewed journals, with an impact factor >1800 and an H-index of 75. To see the publication list click here. He is also author of more than 70 book chapters, and has been invited to more than 200 national and international meetings as a speaker. He was included in the list of top italian scientists (www.topitalianscientists.org). He was president of the European Digestive Surgery (EDS) society and secretary of the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (EAHPBA). He is the editor-in-chief of Digestive Surgery.

He is member of numerous scientific societies, including: Società Italiana di Chirurgia (SIC), Associazione Italiana per lo Studio del Pancreas (AISP), European Pancreatic Club (EPC), International Association of Pancreatology (IAP), European Digestive Surgery (EDS, of which is the Persident-Elect), United European Gastroenterology (UEG), The Pancreas Club, European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (E-AHPBA, member of the scientific committee), International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA). He is member of the European Digestive Surgery (EDS) future trend committee.
