IAP Sendai 2016: towards new international guidelines

The International Association of Pancreatology’s 20th meeting has been held last week in Sendai, Japan, gathering the main international experts in pancreatology. This year the meeting had the aim of preparing the ground for the new International Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of all the main pancreatic diseases.

Our group had the onor to be called to the discussion and actively partecipate: Prof. Bassi took part in the redefinition of locally advanced pancreatic cancer and his therapeutic raccomandations. Prof. Salvia had to front a difficult diagnostic issue regarding pancreatic cystic neoplasms, re-defining the old Fukuoka 2012 guidelines (internationally used). The rest of the group also contribuited to the debate with oral presentations.

The International Association of Pancreatology is a unique international organisation established in 1985 and devoted to basic and clinical understanding of pancreatic functions and diseases. It is an assembly of basic scientists and clinical investigators from 32 countries dedicated to explore pancreatic biology in order to improve treatment outcomes in a variety of pancreatic disorders.
