Prof. Claudio Bassi was awarded in Barcelona (Spain) the 2013 “Antoni de Gimbernat” prize, for his surgical and academic career. This prize, established in 1963, has been awarded to outstanding surgeons of the past and present, including Pablo Luís Mirizzi, Ernest Stanley Crawford, Pietro Valdoni, Michael E. De Bakey, Jean Louis Lortat-Jacob, Paride Stefanini, Marcel Roux, Claude Dubost, Robert M. Zollinger, Umberto Veronesi, David C. Sabiston, Hans Beger, Henri Bismuth, Alfred Cuschieri, Markus Büchler, Henrik Kehlet, Jacques Marescaux, and Pierre-Alain Clavien.
